myBase Desktop Edition is a useful tool which is intended for running freeform database, organizing information and taking notes on Windows Workstations. It loads and manipulates locally stored .nyf database files, and is in most cases suitable for personal use & businesses.
A Better Experience with Freeform Database
myBase has an intuitive interface and organizes information in the tree-structured outline form. It's easy to install and create your own databases by adding info items or simply importing data from a variety of sources. Packed with useful features like Tree Outlining, Attachments, Custom Icons, Item Linking, Labeling, Tabbed Mutli-Database, Multi-Doc/View, Bookmarks, Find As-you-type, and the integrated zip utility. myBase changes the way you organize information for the better.
Tabbed Multi-Database & Document-View Model
myBase allows more than one .nyf databases to be open at a time. Loading another .nyf db doesn't unload the opened ones. Each database creates its own Tabbed tree view when it's open, and has separate child windows for the contents associated with its info items. Plus, each info item can have more than one views at a time. By default, clicking on an info item unloads the previous note and then loads the next one. Although this default behaviour can be changed by pinning a child window. Pinning a child window makes the content stick to the window even if you then click on another info item, actually a new child window is created at this time for the next item accordingly.
Unique Attachments & Compression
The attachment feature allows you to attach any kind of documents, images and even arbitrary files to info items in your databases. myBase first introduced the Attachment concept in 1998. All information being stored is automatically compressed with the integrated zip utility (Powered by Zlib). This helps save much disk space.
Info Items Undeletion & File Size Optimization
Deleting info items only marks the items as 'Removed', so you have the chance to undelete them by using the 'Undelete' maintenance utility. While emptying the recycle bin permanently purges all the recycled items. The 'File size Optimization' utility eliminates fragments and makes database file compact, and therefore saves disk space.
Webpage Saving & HTML Editing
myBase is able to store and organize any kind of information including webpages and images, Internet Explorer is seamlessly embedded, so linked or attached web contents (such as .HTML, .GIF, .JPG, .PNG, .TXT ...) can be viewed inside myBase without launching third-party tools. By default, clicking on an info item containing web contents, the first web content is displayed. If you want to edit a webpage in the database, simply press F2 on the webpage, the webage goes into Edit mode, then you can edit the webpage and any changes to the webpage are automatically saved in the database.
Integrated RTF Editing & Stylesheet Support
With myBase you have the convenience of editing your text notes within a standard Rich Text Editor, the essential formatting tools, such as font, color, justify, indentation, line-spacing and etc. are provided. And more, you have the convenience of defining a set of text stylesheets and applying to other text with one click.
New nyf:// Protocol Scheme
myBase introduced the application-defined 'nyf://' protocol scheme for viewing webpages within the embedded web browser. That being said, webpages don't reside in your 'TEMP' folder while browsing the webpages, the embedded web browser directly fetches that from your database, instead of loading from within the system TEMP folder. This helps improve the performance retrieving webpages and keep the system folder clean while running myBase.
Find As-you-type & Boolean Searches
myBase adds the ability to create indexes for databases, so you can quickly find a text or phrase as you type without the delay in searching through the whole database. myBase also offers the 'Advanced Search' utility that goes through the whole database and look into each info items in the specified range, found items are listed in a separate child window. The boolean searches feature enables you to search databases with boolean expressions like this: ( free AND form ) OR ( freeform NOT sql ). This is self-explanatory.
Protecting Database & items with Passwords
With myBase, you can set a password to protect your database from unauthorized access. Furthermore, you can set different passwords to secure individual items. Clicking on a secured item, the item's content keeps hidden with a screen 'This is a Secure Item...' displayed. To access a secured item you must unlock it by entering your passwords.
Custom Item Icons
By default, myBase uses default icons scheme for each info items, Besides that, myBase also maintains a custom icons sub-system within each databases. Any 16*16 bitmap files can be inserted as item icons, which can be then assigned and displayed along with info items. The custom icons feature makes database outline view clear and graceful.
Auto-Save & Auto-Backup
myBase periodically saves changes to databases, and you have the convenience of customizing the time interval, or simply disabling the auto-save behaviour. myBase also creates backup for your databases. A couple of backup specific options are provided, for example, the customizable backup folder, the option to create backup only once per day, and the option to add a timestamp into the backup file name, so you can have a backup for each day, and more options are available.
Relating Items with Item Links
myBase allows you to create item links between different info items, so you can have a related items list for each info items, you have the convenience of jumping from one item to related items by item links.
Labelling Info Items
myBase allows you to create a set of custom labels which are used to tag info items with names or keywords. Clicking on a label item within the outline, all info items associated with the label are listed out in a separate child window. This adds another way for you to organize/filter and quickly find your info items in a very efficient way other than the traditional tree outline form.
Referring Info Items by Symbolic Links
Symbolic Links feature adds a way to create 'Virtual Info Items' that are just link to target info items. Clicking on a symbolic link item jumps to the linked target item instead. This feature allows an info item's contents to appear under any other info items, without having to maintain duplicates of the same item's content; Any changes to the refereneced info item are reflected in all places where the item is referenced or linked.
Capturing Webpages Directly from with Web Browsers
The WebCollect add-on allows you to capture webpages or snippets including linked images directly from your web browser, and save with myBase without having to first save html/mht files and then insert them manually. In order to capture a web page while surfing the net, you just need to right-click on the web page and select the "Save With myBase" menu item and press OK button. Currently WebCollect add-on is available in 2 editions, one for Internet Explorer, and one for Mozilla Firefox.
Bookmarks
The bookmarks feature allows you to define a number of bookmarks. So you can jump from one position to another bookmarked position quickly. You can also define your own keyboard shortcuts for the bookmarks.
Converting Database Into HTML Tree
With the HTMLTree Plug-in, you can effortlessly convert your database into a professional looking dynamic HTML tree and a set of web pages including item links and attachments with one click.
Plug-ins/Add-ons Support
myBase offers the Plug-Ins/Add-ons API which allows developers to extend its capabilities and add particular utilities by programming the Plugins API. As a matter of fact, many of inbuilt utilites are implemented by using the add-ons API.

For use on Window 2000/XP, we provide the UNICODE build, so you can obtain more benefits on manipulating multilingal information within your databases.
Fast-Load
myBase is based on the efficient and solid SSG database engine which provides the fast load capability. Mostly myBase loads a database within 3 seconds.
Import-Export & Capture-Share
A number of utilities related to data import-export are provided. Some of them have been incorporated into the main program, and some others are provided as plug-ins/add-ons. We generally arrange the data import utilities into the 'Capture' menu, while the data export utilities into the 'Share' menu.
Item Drag-and-Drop
You have the convenience of re-arranging the info items by utilizing OLE-based drag-and-drop which allows to copy/move an item (branch) from one item to another within a database, as well as between two databases opened within defferent myBase instances.
Item Cut-Copy-Paste
myBase offers the Copy-Cut-Paste feature on text editing as well as on info items. The Item Copy-Cut-Paste feature allows you to copy/cut any info item (branch), and paste elsewhere the info item is allowed. This helps when you move info items across a long items list to somewhere far from the source item. The Cut-Copy-Paste feature also works between two databases opened within different myBase instances.
Print and Preview
myBase offers a set of utilities that print individual text notes, webpages and info item branches; You can also choose to print all text notes, or just headlines under a branch with appropriate indents, and/or print text notes with page breaks per item. Before printing out pages on a real printer, you have the convenience of previewing the pages on the screen.
