Sitespector features
The program's interface was designed to be simplest, and any user can quickly get used to it. In just a few minutes you will know of all sections and features available through the program's interface. The program's multiple-window interface allows you to view changes in web pages in individual windows and set those windows' relative positions against other windows and arrange them into groups.
The program allows you to set exact periods of time when web pages are to be checked. The scheduling allows setting various exclusions to optimize bandwidth usage and avoid checking pages at inappropriate time.
The program can run in background, and you may choose which way the program will notify you when new information is found on a web page. A number of notification types may be selected: playing sound, blinking program's icon in system tray or displaying a special popup message.
There is an opportunity to filter out unwanted web page content using special rules and user defined sets of values. Such filtration allows to ignore some inforamtion and does not consider its appearing on the web page as page update.
There are three types of filtration values: filtering by date format, by time format, and by text constants. A filter triggers when information on the web page contains one of several text constants or date or time values you have set. You may specify, upon which filter values found on the page the page must be considered updated, and a new channel issue is to be created for it, and when such issue must not be created.
Also, you may now ignore paragraphs with links, in which only the link address changes while the text remains unchanged.
With a special option that allows ignoring images with external links, the program can exclude from the total amount of changes continually refreshing banners, counters, and other unnecessary "trash" and as well exclude paragraphs that do not contain letters (dates, time, numbers, etc.). You may filter information on a page by specific values that may include date and time masks or text constants. Such filtering allows to disregard the «noise» in content and not consider a page updated when such changes appear on page.
All new information found on web pages is displayed as individual issues, where new information is presented either by highlighting all changes right on the web page or by displaying the list of changes grouped into individual paragraphs. You may switch between these views.
All images and objects such as flash movies that are available on the web page being monitored are downloaded to user's computer and stored for channel issues locally. Thus, even if your computer is not currently connected to the Internet, all images in channel issues will be still available for viewing. You may disable this option if you wish. In such case, all images and objects on the web page will be replaced with so called placeholders - single-color rectangles.
The program can keep an eye on changes in web pages that contain scripts that affect the page's content. You can disable running scripts for pages you do not trust in full.
Frames are actually individual pages within a current page. The program allows to monitor changes within those pages and present those changes in the total content of the page's update.
The program allows you to export channels by saving them and all of their settings to a file, which you can then move to another computer, send via e-mail, etc. and then import to another copy of the program
