IconPainter creates, edits, converts small and large images with transparency, gradients and filters.

WBMP is a new image format used for images on mobile phones. IconPainter codes and decodes this format according to the WAP specification. IconPainter can also be used to perform conversion between WBMP and the other formats it supports such as GIF. The Java codec source code for reading and writing WBMP is available for free to IconPainter users on request. It's small and perfect for applets.

  • Transparent overlays, color gradient shading and automatic antialiasing
  • Drawing can be done directly on the image or on a pixel grid
  • Predefined shapes including circle, ellipse, rectangle, triangle plus user defined polygons with any number of vertices as well as quadratic and cubic curve drawing
  • Text of any size and in any installed Java 2 font
  • Rotation, shifting, flipping with undo/redo and floodfill
  • Reflections and tiles can be easily created
  • External images can be cut and pasted in
  • Reads and writes PNG, ICO, CUR, BMP, ANI, JPEG plus GIF (non-LZW) and TIFF
  • Full support for the Unix XPM format with XPM color choosing by XPM name or from a special XPM palette
  • Full support for the Mobile Phone WAP WBMP format
  • Filters to buttonize, gray-out, lighten, darken and others including custom convolves.
  • Polygon shapes can be predefined and drawn as needed
  • Shapes can be filled with a texture instead of color
  • Allows screen capture and then cutting, editing and saving from the captured image
