Both Dali's extraordinary talent and odd personality helped him to rise above the rest of the Surrealists of the 20th century. For Dali it was all part of his adopted role as agent provocateur to the bourgeoisie, his ongoing mission to undercut our safe, complacent view of what is real. Salvador Dali remains one of the great artistic innovators of all time. Like Picasso, Matisse, Miro and Chagall, his place at the pinnacle of modern art history is assured.
