DataBasix - use the power of XML to document, design, version-control and deploy your databases. Think of it as creating source-code for your database. You design, edit and document the model as metadata away from the actual database catalogs. When the time comes to implement and test those changes, DataBasix generates the SQL DML/DDL code required to prepare the catalogs (development / test / production).

DataBasix features

Save time and effort by automatically generating upgrade scripts for your DBA. Simply load the old and new schema models and click the button.

Version control the structure of the database. The schema model is held in an XML text file, human-readable and suitable for source control repositories.

Version control the content of code / look-up / configuration tables. Store the DML statements used to INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE data in the target catalog(s). Generated upgrade scripts will ensure the tables contain the correct data. This could be crucial for the correct functioning of your application.

Run XPath queries on the schema. Useful for impact analysis (where-used), or design consistency (e.g. show all tables with no primary key)

Create custom schema reports, exports or even data-access code, in any text format (HTML/CSV etc.) using XSL transformations.

Extend the DBMS by adding custom properties and documentation on any structure, at any level. E.g. categorize tables by usage: lookup / transaction / master etc., add usage notes to indexes, etc.

Check any existing database catalog for compliance to the schema model. Find missing indexes, incorrect column lengths etc

Enforce design consistency. E.g. change in column length automatically updates all tables with such a column; delete column removes from table, indexes, foreign-keys etc.

Design at the metadata level, hands-off the database so as not to disturb the development team.

Collaborate and share your design as an XML document, with team members or other software.
